Planetarium Show Dates for Winter/Spring 2008:
Open to the public! Multimedia presentations on a variety of astronomical topics. Please arrive early, as shows start promptly at 8 pm, and there is no late seating. Tickets are sold at the door on the night of the show, starting at 7:30 pm (there are no advance ticket sales). Afterwards, join us in the Observatory for viewing through the Celestron 16" telescope (weather permitting). Each show is an hour long. No previous knowledge is required!
Admission: $5.00 for adults; $4.00 for Senior Citizens, Astronomy Group members & LAVC students with paid ASO activity cards; $3 for children ages 8-16. (Sorry, we cannot admit children under the age of 8).
February 22, 2008- “Oasis In Space”- Liquid water is a critical requirement for life, so our search for extraterrestrials must begin by looking for water. Join us as we tour our solar system in a search for water in our local neighborhood in this show from E & S Spitz, Incorporated.
March 21, 2008 - “Heart of the Milky Way” - We and our solar system lie within a large collection of stars--the Milky Way Galaxy. It’s difficult to view the core of the galaxy with optical instruments, but we’ve managed to glimpse what lies at the center using airborne telescopes. Joins us as we take a trip aboard a flying observatory, peering into the heart of the Milky Way.
April 11, 2008- “The Spring Sky” - As milder weather returns the familiar constellations of Spring reappear. Join us as we show you how to find these constellations in the evening sky, and take a humorous look at the myths behind them.
May 9, 2008 - “Point Of No Return: Quasars and Supermassive Black Holes” -
